Ilana Löwy

Ilana Löwy is a Senior Researcher at INSERM (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Scientifique), Paris. She is interested in the history of bacteriology and immunology, tropical medicine, history of oncology, and the intersection between gender studies and biomedicine. Among others, she has published Virus, moustiques et modernité: Science, politique et la fièvre jaune au Brésil (Archives d’Histoire Contemporaine, 2001) and Preventive Strikes: Women, Precancer and Prophylactic Surgery (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2009). Her most recent book is A Woman’s Disease: A History of Cervical Cancer (Oxford University Press, 2011). She is now studying the history of prenatal diagnosis.
